Value Crop Research Institute

We are conducting research on the breeding of sweet potato, canola, and peanut varieties and the development of bio-chemical materials from agricultural byproducts to respond to climate change, consumer demands, and other contemporary challenges.
Anthocyanin-rich sweet potato Bodami Peanut Udo Ole-1 mechanical sowing demonstration Canola Geumbyeol
  • Development and dissemination of sweet potato varieties with excellent cultivation stability for climate change adaptation
    • Wider dissemination of complex disease-resistant variety 'Hopungmi' with high cultivation stability under abnormal weather conditions
    • Breeding of Anthocyanin-rich processing variety 'Bodami'
  • Development of customized peanut varieties to reduce production costs and increase added value
    • Breeding and dissemination of high-oleic, machine-harvest adaptable new peanut varieties to enhance processing utilization
      • High-oleic new varieties 'K-Ol2', 'Hae-Ol', 'Udo Ole-1' disseminated in main production areas (Shinan, Jeju, Taean demonstration plots)
  • Development of breeding and utilization technology to promote rapeseed resource recycling
    • Development of high-quality, disaster-resistant varieties suitable for landscape use and premium edible oil production
    • Investigation of functional properties of cold-pressed rapeseed oil and quality of rapeseed flower nectar
  • Development of biochemical material technologies through upcycling of agricultural by products
    • Development of biochemical material technologies through agricultural byproduct upcycling (patent pending)
      • Establishment of microbial culture conditions using evolutionary adaptation method → Succinic acid production efficiency increased 2.4 times
→ Succinic acid production efficiency increased 2.4 times
    • Development of alkaline co-solvent pretreatment and process for high-concentration fermented sugar production from wheat straw (patent pending)
      • Co-solvent: catalyst ratio improved → 30% reduction in chemical consumption
→ 30% reduction in chemical consumption
